Traveling While Pregnant

We care about your comfort and safety, especially during pregnancy. To help you plan your journey with confidence, here’s what you need to know when flying while expecting:

Our travel policy depends on the stage of pregnancy and overall health. It’s important to share accurate information so we can assist you better.

  • Up to 36 weeks: Travel is allowed on domestic and short-haul flights (up to 2 hours).
  • Up to 34 weeks: Travel is allowed on international flights.
❖ Before 28 Weeks

If you're in your first or second trimester (before 28 weeks) and have a normal pregnancy, you can travel without a doctor’s note.
Just complete a simple Pregnancy Declaration Form and present it at check-in or boarding.

❖ After 28 Weeks

Starting from week 28, you'll need a medical certificate from your doctor stating you're fit to fly.
Please have your doctor fill out the Ethiopian Airlines Pregnancy Certificate Form and submit it to our Medical Services before your trip.

 In Case of Complications

If your pregnancy involves medical complications or special conditions, a Medical Clearance (MEDIF) is required.
 It must be:

  • Completed by your attending doctor within 7 days of your departure
  • Approved by Ethiopian Airlines Medical Services
  • Used to travel within 72 hours of receiving approval

Planning ensures peace of mind. If you need assistance at any stage, we are always happy to help.
