Avoid long queues by using Ethiopian's Online Check-in feature

Web check-in is the process by which passengers confirm their presence on a flight via the Internet and usually print their own boarding pass.

Online check-in is available from 48 hours to 2 hours before departure for all international flights and from 24 hours to 2 hours before departure for all domestic flights. Confirm your attendance on the flight, select your seat and save valuable time. All a passenger needs is an Internet connection and a printer for the boarding pass.

What is required to use online billing?

Basic requirements for online billing

• Passengers must have an electronic ticket; flights must be operated by Ethiopian Airlines.
• For web check-in service on codeshare flights (flights in collaboration with other airlines), please visit the respective airline's website.

Steps to do online billing

• Go to   https://checkin.ethiopianairlines.com/SSW2010/ETM1/checkin/#checkin/e1s1?lang=en_GB  or click on "web check-in" in the quick links section of the EthiopianAirlines.com website to begin online check-in.
• On the "Home" page, enter your name as it appears on your ticket (passenger receipt). Also enter your travel start city and PNR or frequent flyer number and click "Continue". This will locate your reservation and display your itinerary.
• Select your gender (if you haven't done so already) and the flight sector you'd like to check in to and click "Select or change seat."
• On the next screen you can change the seat that was assigned to you when you booked your flight. If you do not require any changes, proceed to the next step by clicking on "Check in baggage".
• The following page shows the information on "hazardous materials". Please read this and confirm whether you are carrying any of the materials mentioned. 

  Note: Please ensure that the information you provide here is correct as it may have legal implications.

• Once you select "No", you will be asked for the number of bags you will be taking to the airport for check-in. This does not include the allowance for single hand luggage (maximum 7kg). • Click "Check In" to finish the process and show your boarding pass.
• Print your boarding pass (2 copies required) and bring them with you to the airport. If you do not have any luggage to check in, proceed directly to immigration customs and then to the boarding gates.
• If the passenger has luggage to check in, he/she must arrive at the check-in counters with sufficient time in advance. For domestic flights, they close 45 minutes before departure and for international flights, they close 60 minutes before departure.
• If you are traveling with baggage that needs to be checked, please refer to the time precautions below.

Any problems during online billing?

• If your flight is less than 2 hours away from departure, or if it is more than 36 hours away, you will not be able to check in online.
• The following check-in points are temporarily unavailable for online check-in:
  • Chad(NDJ)
  • Mali(BKO)
    
• All other ET departure locations not mentioned above are available for online check-in.
• Your name must appear exactly as it appears on your reservation and must include your middle name (if applicable) without a space. For example, a passenger whose first name is John and middle name is Edwards would enter Johnedwards in the “first name” field on the check-in page.
• If you have any other problems while checking in for your flight online, click “Back” to return to the previous page or “Home” to start the check-in process from the beginning.

• If you are unable to complete online check-in and print your boarding pass, YOU MUST BE AT THE AIRPORT AT LEAST 2 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE and speak to the customer service agent at the Ethiopian counter.

Precautions for online billing

• Online check-in is not possible for passengers who need to request special services, such as wheelchairs, additional seats, visually and hearing impaired customers, unaccompanied minors, pets in the hold, stretchers, etc.
• If you have luggage to leave, you must arrive at the check-in counter dedicated to passengers who have checked in online at least 
  
  • 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights and
  • 60 minutes before departure for international flights

• Reservations are subject to cancellation if you are not on board the aircraft 30 minutes prior to departure. All existing rules apply if you do not show up.
